“Unbeatable Together!” was the theme for Sun Oil Limited’s recent Smiling Stars service awards ceremony. The annual full-day event was hosted at SuperClubs Breezes and was attended by Shell’s Retailers and top service performers in New Providence for the past year; attendees enjoyed motivational speakers, customer service training sessions and of course, the highly anticipated Awards Presentation.

Starting the day on a high note was Dr. Deborah A. Bartlett, Founder and CEO of the CEO Network, who delivered a motivational message, encouraging the Shell team to dream big, “You were born to be great! You were born for purpose. Pursuing your purpose releases the greatness in you.”

Dr. Bartlett urged the group to harness the legacy of the founders of Sun Oil Limited and use it to embrace their own passions and to take a step every day towards fulfilling their dreams while continuing to build a team that is ‘unbeatable together.’

The Smiling Star Awards are presented by Shell Licensees the world over with local winners advancing to compete regionally and then on a global level. In The Bahamas, the highly coveted Smiling Star Awards are presented in top categories of C-Store Agent of the Year, Forecourt Service Champion of the Year and Retailer of the Year.

This year’s top winners will join Shell’s high flyers from around the world in Dubai for a fabulous week-long celebration – Smiling Stars Dubai 2022. Following the cancellation of the last two Smiling Star global events due to the pandemic, this year’s eagerly awaited event promises to exceed expectations. Attendees will enjoy first-class accommodation and dining, exclusive tours and authentic experiences and of course, a gala awards celebration.

“Service champions show up every day! They do what they need to do, not just what they have to do,” said Amad Rashad Thompson, Certified Trainer and Coach, who spoke to the Smiling Star nominees for C-Store Agent of the Year and Forecourt Service Champion of the Year awards. Thirteen top team members were nominated in both award categories.

Mr. Thompson led an exciting and insightful break-out session, addressing the four types of customers and the essentials of customer service. The service champions also learned how to embrace their individuality to enhance service delivery, ending with a fervent affirmation: “I am excellence. I commit to being unbeatable together.”

Addressing the topic, “Transformational Change in Leadership,” Jeffrey Beckles Leadership and Training Consultant, spoke to the team of Retailers. The group was encouraged to see themselves as agents of change and influence. They were encouraged to model the changes they wish to see in their teams, to invest in their human resources, think globally while executing locally and to cultivate a culture of caring and an environment in which customers anticipate and receive outstanding service with each interaction.

Beckles explained, “It was indeed a pleasure being with the team and presenting to the retail leaders. One could feel the energy and sense of pride among the Shell Family. The Shell leadership is to be commended for its vision and passion to be number one!”

Rounding out the festivities was the exhilarating Awards Presentation, indeed the highlight of the day. In addition to the trip to Dubai, winners of the main awards for C-Store Agent of the Year, Service Champion of the Year and Retailer of the Year also won cash prizes and gift certificates.

Clinton Rolle, Managing Director for Sun Oil Limited, exclaimed, “Today we are celebrating our brightest and best. We congratulate all of our Smiling Star Nominees for your customer service excellence! You are our star Service Champions and you have demonstrated your commitment to exceeding the expectations of every customer that visits a Shell Service Station! “
