A Severe Thunderstorm Warning In Effect For Grand Bahama and Abaco

SEVERE WEATHER WARNING

THE BAHAMAS DEPARTMENT OF METEOROLOGY HAS ISSUED A SEVERE THUNDERSTORM WARNING FROM 4:10 PM UNTIL 6:10 PM EDT MONDAY 25TH OCTOBER 2021.

A SEVERE THUNDERSTORM WARNING IS NOW IN EFFECT FOR  EAST-END GRAND BAHAMA, AND ABACO ALONG WITH THEIR  ADJACENT WATERS.

AT 4:05 PM LIGHTNING DETECTOR, RADAR AND SATELLITE IMAGERY DEPICTED CLUSTERS OF SHOWERS WITH EMBEDDED THUNDERSTORMS ASSOCIATED WITH TROUGHING AND A MOIST UNSTABLE AIRMASS ACROSS THE AREA. THESE STORMS ARE MOVING EASTWARD, TOWARDS AND ACROSS THE WARNING AREAS.

SOME OF THESE THUNDERSTORMS WILL BE SEVERE AT TIMES CAUSING STRONG GUSTY WINDS, DANGEROUS LIGHTNING, HEAVY DOWNPOURS, HAIL AND POSSIBLE WATERSPOUT OR TORNADIC ACTIVITY. LOCALIZED FLOODING IS ALSO POSSIBLE DURING THESE STORMS.

BOATERS IN THE WARNING AREAS SHOULD SEEK SAFE HARBOUR AND RESIDENTS IN THE WARNING AREAS SHOULD STAY INDOORS AND AWAY FROM WINDOWS WHEN CONDITIONS WORSEN. RESIDENTS SHOULD NOT SEEK SHELTER UNDER TREES OR IN WATER AS THESE CAN BECOME LIGHTNING CONDUCTORS.
