Ricardo Sawyer, a graduate of the Mangrove Cay High School, Andros, is the third Deltec Initiatives Foundation scholarship recipient.

Sawyer has enrolled at the University of The Bahamas where he will pursue studies toward a degree in engineering.

The purpose of the Deltec Initiatives Foundation scholarship is to increase post-secondary education opportunities to Family Island students, who, otherwise, would not have the financial means to fulfill their educational goals.

Marcia Adderley, chairlady of Deltec Initiatives Foundation for Scholarship and Education (DIFSE), spoke highly of Sawyer.

“Ricardo is an exceptionally brilliant, curious mind who impressed our entire board of directors during his final interview,” said Adderley. “He is a forward thinker with a passion for technology. He hopes to fulfill his engineering degree and aspires to promote and advance urban development in his home island of Andros and The Bahamas.”

The DIFSE program is a highly selective, full scholarship program for exceptional public high school seniors who reside in the Family Islands. The Deltec Scholar is chosen based on their academic achievements, demonstrated leadership skills, school and community participation, financial needs and a drive and commitment to give back to their communities.

Previous scholarship recipients include Aaliyah Adderley from Long Island, the 2019 recipient; and David Rolle, from Andros, the 2020 recipient.

Deltec is an advocate for promising and deserving young Bahamians. Deltec officials say the future of the nation’s economy, democracy and quality of life is dependent upon the preparation of a diverse cadre of leaders who are determined to help build a stronger society. By promoting and providing opportunities, it is the foundation’s aim that these individuals become impactful citizens of The Bahamas in this changing world.
