A Severe Thunderstorm Warning In Effect For Cat Island

THE BAHAMAS DEPARTMENT OF METEOROLOGY HAS ISSUED A SEVERE THUNDERSTORM WARNING FROM 5:50 AM UNTIL 7:50 AM, MONDAY 19TH JULY 2021.

A SEVERE THUNDERSTORM WARNING IS IN EFFECT FOR CAT ISLAND ALONG WITH ITS ADJACENT WATERS.

A SEVERE WEATHER WATCH IS IN EFFECT FOR THE EXUMAS ALONG WITH THEIR ADJACENT WATERS.

AT 5:45 AM, LIGHTNING DETECTION, RADAR AND SATELLITE IMAGERY CONTINUED TO DEPICT A BROAD AREA OF WIDELY SCATTERED SHOWERS WITH EMBEDDED THUNDERSTORMS ASSOCIATED WITH MOISTURE INTERACTING WITH MID TO UPPER LEVEL TROUGHING MOVING NORTHWESTWARDS TOWARD AND ACROSS THE WARNING AND WATCH AREAS.

SOME OF THESE THUNDERSTORMS MAY BECOME STRONG TO SEVERE AT TIMES PRODUCING STRONG GUSTY WINDS, DANGEROUS LIGHTNING, HEAVY DOWNPOURS, HAIL AND POSSIBLE WATERSPOUT OR TORNADIC ACTIVITY. LOCALIZED FLOODING IS ALSO POSSIBLE DURING THE PASSAGE OF THESE STORMS.

BOATERS IN THE WARNING AND WATCH AREAS SHOULD SEEK SAFE HARBOUR AND RESIDENTS IN THE WARNING AREAS SHOULD STAY INDOORS AND AWAY FROM WINDOWS WHEN CONDITIONS WORSEN. RESIDENTS SHOULD NOT SEEK SHELTER UNDER TREES OR IN WATER AS THESE CAN BECOME LIGHTNING CONDUCTORS.
