A man was murdered on New Providence yesterday evening, bringing the murder toll for the year to 66.

Assistant Superintendent of Police Audley Peters said the victim appeared to be in his late 20s or early 30s.

He said the man was shot as he attempted to return an item to someone in Elizabeth Estates.

“This evening, shortly before 6 p.m., police received a report of a shooting incident that occurred on Mauritius Avenue in Elizabeth Estates,” Peters said.

“Officers responded and on their arrival, they were led to the body of a male who was lying on the ground unresponsive with wounds consistent with gunshots.

“Emergency medical services visited the scene and pronounced the male lifeless.

“Initial investigations revealed that this victim came to the resident to return an item when he was approached by a lone gunman who discharged a firearm in his direction, fatally wounding him.

“We are appealing to all members of the public who may have any information in regards to this incident to contact the nearest police station or the Criminal Investigations Department.”

Peters said there was “no information at this moment” to suggest the shooting was gang-related.
