CBC To Once Again Partner With Cans4kids for Aluminum Can Drive Events

Following the success of their ongoing aluminum can drive events, which launched in February of this year, the Caribbean Bottling Company (Bahamas) Ltd. (CBC) will once again partner with Cans4kids (Cans for Kids) for two more aluminum can drive events. The recycling events will take place on June 11 and July 24, respectively. CBC will also host an employee can drive on June 18 in a bid to raise awareness about recycling reusable materials.

The June 11 event will take place at the Mt. Olive Baptist Church in Bain Town from 11am - 3pm. Persons who donate cans during the event will be eligible to receive instant prizes, and the person who donates the most aluminum cans, by weight, will win a gift pack. Cans4kids will also continue their 3-month-long school can donation competition, which will award the school who collects the most aluminum cans with $300. The individual student who collects the most cans will also win $100. The contest will officially come to a close during the July 24 event, taking place at Arawak Cay, from 11am-4pm.

For members of the general public who would like to make a donation, they can collect their empty aluminum cans in trash bags and bring them to either event to be weighed. Schools wishing to take part in the student centric competition can donate their cans at their schools or bring them to the can donation drive events.

The Caribbean Bottling Company has partnered with Cans4kids for three monthly aluminum can donation drives, in February, March and in April, of this year. Other community partners have included The D’Albenas Agency Ltd, Popeyes Bahamas, Wendy’s Bahamas, the New Providence Community Center, Bahamas Waste, the Bahamas National Trust, the Bahamas Telecommunications Company Ltd. (BTC) and The Mall at Marathon.

“Over the years, we have been dedicated to supporting community and environment groups that aim to positively impact change around the country.” noted Nikia Wells, CBC Communications Marketing Manager. “Not only are we proud to support the ongoing day to day efforts of Cans4kids, but we want to help engage communities to raise awareness about environmental preservation projects. In addition to our efforts with Cans4kids, we have also been partnering with The Coca Cola Foundation and Blue Lagoon for Coca-Cola Circular Seas beach clean up events around the country, and we work diligently to constantly implement new and innovative waste reduction and recycling projects.”

Alma McDonald, Cans4kids’ Project Manager, noted that they are excited about the upcoming events, but they are constantly working to increase awareness about recycling in The Bahamas and to encourage more men, women and children to collect and donate their aluminum cans.

The most recent winner of the can donation drives was Kenneth Wallace-Whitfield. In an act of generosity, Wallace-Whitfield chose not to collect his prize for his Earth Day contribution, and instead donated his gift pack to the Ranfurly Home.

In early 2018, The Coca-Cola Company announced a massive global ambition to recycle all of its packaging by 2030. As the official bottler of Coca-Cola beverages in the Bahamas, the Caribbean Bottling Company will continue to look for new and innovative ways to make that goal a reality, in the Bahamas.
