A Severe Thunderstorm Warning In Effect For Eleuthera and Cat Island

THE BAHAMAS DEPARTMENT OF METEOROLOGY HAS ISSUED A SEVERE THUNDERSTORM WARNING FROM 8:45 AM EDT UNTIL 10:45 AM SATURDAY 8TH MAY 2021.

A SEVERE THUNDERSTORM WARNING IS IN EFFECT FOR SOUTH ELEUTHERA AND CAT ISLAND ALONG WITH THEIR ADJACENT WATERS.

AT 8:40 AM, LIGHTNING DETECTOR, RADAR AND SATELLITE IMAGERY DEPICTED SHOWERS WITH EMBEDDED THUNDERSTORMS ASSOCIATED WITH A FRONTAL SYSTEM ACROSS THE CENTRAL BAHAMAS MOVING SOUTHEASTWARDS TOWARDS AND ACROSS THE WARNING AREAS.  

SOME OF THESE THUNDERSTORMS WILL BE STRONG TO SEVERE AT TIMES CAPABLE OF PRODUCING STRONG GUSTY WINDS, DANGEROUS LIGHTNING, HEAVY DOWNPOURS, HAIL AND POSSIBLE WATERSPOUT OR TORNADIC ACTIVITY. LOCALIZED FLOODING IS ALSO POSSIBLE DURING THESE STORMS. BOATERS IN THE WARNING AREAS SHOULD SEEK SAFE HARBOUR AND RESIDENTS IN THE WARNING AREAS SHOULD STAY INDOORS AND AWAY FROM WINDOWS WHEN CONDITIONS WORSEN. RESIDENTS SHOULD NOT SEEK SHELTER UNDER TREES OR IN WATER AS THESE CAN BECOME LIGHTNING CONDUCTORS.
