Tue, May 4th 2021, 06:00 PM

In recognition of lupus awareness month, the Insurance Commission of The Bahamas recently made a donation to local non-profit Lupus 242. The gift is earmarked to benefit members of the support group with the purchase of medication and pharmaceutical supplies. Jamell Bodie (second from the right), Manager-Supervision at the Insurance Commission and a lupus fighter was the catalyst behind the push to assist fellow members. Shonalee Johnson, Vice President of Lupus 242 Association, thanked Ms. Bodie and the Insurance Commission for their generosity particularly during a time when many members are facing financial hardships due to the global pandemic. In addition to providing aid to members, Lupus 242 will host a series of activities for the month including a virtual POP Up Run and health panels discussing topics from Lupus and COVID-19 to Mentally Coping With a Chronic Illness. The group is also encouraging the country to P.O.P (Put On Purple) For Lupus every Friday in May by wearing purple attire and sharing why. On May 10th, World Lupus Day, Lupus 242 will release a new PSA with project sponsor The Movi Group. To support the cause, follow @Lupus242 on Facebook or Instagram, visit www.lupus242.org or call 242-525 9967.
