Police Seek Second Murder Suspect

Police are searching for a second suspect in the September 12th murder of 26-year-old Jodie Jamine Deveaux, alias Jodie Smith, which occurred in the area of the popular Pepper Pot Take Away Restaurant in Grand Bahama.

Michael Gibson, 24, of 205 Shaftsbury Avenue, North Bahamia, is wanted for questioning in this incident, in which the victim was stabbed several times in the back.

He is described as being dark brown complexion with black eyes, standing at 6?3, with an average built and weighing between 170 and 190 pounds.

The suspect is said to have a tattoo of praying hands on his right arm and a tattoo of a bulldog on the left arm.

Police have advised that Gibson is considered armed and dangerous and should be approached with caution. Persons with information concerning Gibson are asked to contact the police in Grand Bahama at 350-3106, 352-9774 or 5, 911 or Crime Tipsters at 352-1919.

Last week, Benjamin Horace Beneby was charged in the Freeport Magistrate?s court with Smith?s murder.

It was alleged that Beneby, " being concerned with another?by means of unlawful harm, did intentionally and unlawfully cause the death of Jodie Smith."

He was not required to enter a plea.

His matter was adjourned to March 18, 2009 for a Preliminary Inquiry and he was remanded to Her Majesty?s Prison until that date.

Attorneys Simeon Brown and Alexandrio K Morley appeared on behalf of the defendant.

Initially, police reported that Smith, of Pinedale, Eight Mile Rock, had a confrontation with a male passenger of a vehicle in the vicinity of the Pepper Pot on East Sunrise Highway.

The deceased was an attendant at the car wash in the Grand Union parking lot.

He death was classified as Grand Bahama?s eighth homicide for the year.
