Explore the people and culture of Andros by flipping through the pages of “Lenny in the Big Yard”, a new children’s book that aims to introduce kids to the island by following the adventures of Lenny, a little boy visiting his grandparents for the summer.

The book is the first in the “Island Adventure” series. Author Natasha Turnquest said, "The books will include different adventures on the various family islands. Lenny will be in the next one, but he will have friends as well who go on adventure, the books will interconnect and there will be surprises in each of them.

In ‘Lenny in the Big Yard’, Lenny goes to the island of Andros to visit his grandparents for the summer. While he’s there he goes crabbing, crosses the tongue of the ocean and visits an Androsia factory.

Turnquest worked with Jace Mckinney, who illustrated the book. She said McKinney captured " the wild beauty of Andros.

"Mr Mckinney’s illustrations not only tell the story in pictures, but he was able to capture the essence of Andros in an unabashed display of vibrant and lively color." Turnquest said the series is designed to appeal to children between eight and eleven years old.

In writing the books, the author said she wants to expose her young readers to the fun and excitement the family islands can provide.

"The book is targeted at the young Bahamian child that does have not have the opportunity to truly discover the beauty of the family islands. The average Bahamian child is now a city dweller opposed to several decades ago. As a consequence, he/she has very limited reaction with the wider Bahamian experience and to my mind has a very limited appreciation for the uniqueness and priceless beauty of the Bahamas.

"The book takes the child on an adventure where he /she discovers a few fascinating tales about Andros and learns a few life lessons along the way.

Ms Turnquest collaborated with a very talented up and coming young Bahamian artist Jace Mckinney who
