THE BAHAMAS DEPARTMENT OF METEOROLOGY HAS RE-ISSUED A SEVERE THUNDERSTORM WARNING IN EFFECT FROM 4:00 PM EDT UNTIL 6:00 PM, FRIDAY 25THSEPTEMBER, 2020.

A SEVERE THUNDERSTORM WARNING IS IN EFFECT FOR NORTH ANDROS AND THE BERRY ISLANDS, ALONG WITH THEIR ADJACENT WATERS.


A SEVERE WEATHER WATCH IS IN EFFECT FOR GRAND BAHAMA AND ABACO, ALONG WITH THEIR ADJACENT WATERS. AT 3:55 PM LIGHTNING DETECTION, RADAR AND SATELLITE IMAGERY CONTINUED TO DEPICT CLUSTERS OF MODERATE TO HEAVY SHOWERS WITH EMBEDDED THUNDERSTORMS ASSOCIATED WITH TROUGHING ACROSS THE AREA, MOVING EAST-NORTHEAST TOWARDS AND ACROSS THE MENTIONED AREA.

SOME OF THESE THUNDERSTORMS WILL BE STRONG TO SEVERE AT TIMES CAPABLE OF PRODUCING STRONG GUSTY WINDS, DANGEROUS LIGHTNING, HEAVY DOWNPOURS, HAIL AND POSSIBLE WATERSPOUT OR TORNADIC ACTIVITY. LOCALIZED FLOODING IS ALSO POSSIBLE DURING THE PASSAGE OF THESE STORMS.

BOATERS IN THE WARNING AREAS SHOULD SEEK SAFE HARBOUR AND RESIDENTS IN THE WARNING AND WATCH AREAS SHOULD STAY INDOORS AND AWAY FROM WINDOWS AS CONDITIONS WORSEN. RESIDENTS SHOULD NOT SEEK SHELTER UNDER TREES OR IN WATER AS THESE CAN BECOME LIGHTNING CONDUCTORS.
