Bahamas Wellness Health Systems, which operates the Wellness Clinic in Nassau and Eleuthera Medical Center in Palmetto Point, Central Eleuthera, reported today that in keeping with the need for more stringent social distancing to control the spread of COVID-19, its Nassau clinic on Collins Avenue would handle urgent cases only while its Eleuthera facility would remain open but limit number of patients at any given time.

Doctors and other medical personnel will continue to be available on call or to respond to emergencies at both locations, though non-essential services, including specialist clinics, would be suspended until further notice, according to Bahamas Wellness Health Systems President Dr. Arlington Lightbourne.

The health system operates clinics dealing with wellness, weight management, childhood obesity management and, in Eleuthera, a primary and emergency care facility that also offers a dental practice and a list of other specialty medical services by visiting practitioners on a rotational basis.

“We are 100% behind the announcements that our Government made today and fully supportive of the international strategy to maximize control of the spread of COVID-19,” said Dr. Lightbourne.

“Part of that strategy is to minimize contact and while we know that the ideal solution is to self-isolate which no one really wants to do we will do our part to limit contact, especially in the Nassau office on Collins Avenue which is a relatively tight space and often gets crowded.”

The new and spacious Eleuthera facility which opened in 2019 and includes a lab and x-ray capability will remain open 24/7, though non-essential visits will be suspended except for advanced pre-natal care visits which may be necessary. All emergency equipment at that clinic will remain in service.

“We do not want to put anyone, including our medical and support staff, at risk so while the clinics are on reduced schedules, we are offering to provide our cell numbers to the public in case of emergency,” said Dr. Lightbourne. Those numbers are (242) 376-7601 and (242) 821-7610.
