BTC has officially opened a new 440 square foot multi-functional retail store in Marsh Harbour to serve the residential and business community. The opening took place just six months after the passage of Hurricane Dorian. A prayer followed by a ribbon cutting made it all official for the dozens of residents who queued up for the store’s opening on February 29th.

CEO, Garfield Sinclair said, “This investment definitely reaffirms our commitment to rebuilding and reinvesting in Abaco while restoring the island to its glory. We are the first telecommunications company to do this, and this is really an exciting opportunity for us. We are encouraged that milestones like these help to restore confidence and aide in returning the island to a semblance of normalcy. We are also happy to move our team members into this new facility.”

The new retail store is located in Maxwell’s Plaza, which also houses Maxwell’s Supermarket and Commonwealth Bank. The store is operated and managed by an all-Abaconian team of three customer service representatives. There are also five Abaco-based technicians on the ground, accompanied by BTC’s Hurricane restoration team.

BTC has also reasserted that it is working to restore fixed services island-wide.

Director of Technology Operations, Andre Foster said, “As a company, we are coming back stronger, and we are doing a number of upgrades to make sure that our network is more resilient. We are currently burying our fiber, and increasing LTE capacity. In areas where we haven’t yet restored fixed services, we are providing a wireless solution which allows customers to get their fixed line service on a wireless network, providing the same home phone service, but on a device that’s portable. Thankfully, we had no network issues in Southern Abaco, from Sandy Point up to Cherokee and Casuarina, there have been no service challenges.”

In addition to the three CSR’s, there are also two Business customer representatives to provide on-island support for small and enterprise customers. Senior Manager for B2B, Kendrick Knowles said, “The restoration of this environment heavily depends on the return of businesses to the community. BTC has a long history with the business community and this opening definitely demonstrates our commitment as a partner in the redevelopment of Abaco. As soon as any member of the business community is ready, we can come directly to you, with a solution, to get you back in business.”

Customers can reach the store at CALL-BTC (225-5282) or by visiting BTC on Facebook and Instagram. Store hours are from 9:30am - 3:30pm Monday to Friday.
