Bahamian Patrice Murrell’s first single for 2020 has dropped, and she says this one is a banger. Her latest track, “Heavyweight”, merges Bahamian and Trinidadian culture, combining elements of Junkanoo and soca. As its name suggests, it’s about strength, power, being the best in whatever you choose to do, being confident and overcoming challenges. The song seeks to inspire others to be champions. According to Murrell, the song’s main writer, Seumas “Azaryah” Callender, was able to perfectly embody where she is currently in her career as an entertainer. It features Marvin “Swappi” Davis, the reigning 2019 Groovy Soca Monarch from Trinidad.
