Bahamas Charter Show Partners with Ranfurly Home for Children with The Step Program

Far from being content with merely focusing on the well-healed traveler, the Bahamas Charter Show sheds light on the plight of some of the most vulnerable in Bahamian society through its ongoing partnership with the Ranfurly Homes for Children’s Step Program. This initiative seeks to raise funds for the construction of transitional housing units, called ‘Pods’, for older residents of the well- known Bahamian children’s home.

A critical concern with the present facilities at the Ranfurly Homes is that those children living at the home, who ‘age out’ upon attaining the age 18 years and graduating high school, must then move out and find accommodations on their own. For such young individuals who, oftentimes lack the necessary skills and resources, and have challenges connecting with family, the prospect of successfully starting a new chapter of their lives is far more difficult than many of their peers in the local society. On occasion this can manifest itself as homelessness, poverty, and lower academic proficiency.

Worldwide Boat is the company behind the Bahamas Charter show. According to its charter director Katja Kukovic:-

“Being involved with the US foster system for the last five years, I recognize the importance of safe housing and resources for young adults so that they can successfully transition to independent living. The Step program by Ranfurly Home provides that safe place.” In keeping with its mission statement, “Joining hands with Ranfurly Home and their Step program to build safe, nurturing homes in which young adults can successfully transition from foster care to independence.”,

the show has set up a Go Fund me page with the goal of raising $110, 000 toward the construction of Pods for the Step Program.

The inaugural Bahamas Charter Show is an invitation-only, trade-only showcase that will shine a spotlight on a selection of Bahamas- based charter yachts. Hosted across two marinas in Nassau, Bay Street Marina and The Pointe Marina, the show creates perfect educational and networking opportunities for brokers, crew and guests alike. Running for four days, February 27- March 1, 2020, the itinerary includes comprehensive tours, seminars, panel discussions, as well as plenty of social events.
