As one of only 36 schools in the world to offer all four prestigious International Baccalaureate (IB) programmes, Lyford Cay International School (LCIS) is listed among the leading schools globally, offering a highly valuable educational programme for students aged 18 months to 18 years old.

On Tuesday 26 November, the faculty, students, parents, and community partners of LCIS celebrated the topping off of its new Secondary School campus currently under construction. The campus is located just behind the Island House hotel and St Paul’s Church.

The contractor recently reached the highest point in the construction with the installation of a captivating clocktower that sits atop the centre of the main Gateway Building. This building will serve as the focal point of Phase 1 of the masterplan to enhance and fully develop both of the school’s properties into one of the most highly advanced educational institutions in the region.

Breaking ground in April 2019, construction has progressed as scheduled and is expected to be completed in May 2020. As of August 2020, students in Grades 7-12 will be taught in the new, state-of-the-art facilities made available through the construction of the campus.

Speaking at the celebration, LCIS Board of Directors Co-Chair Bryan Glinton, stated, “This is a celebration of the incredible generosity of the many donors and partners who have come together to invest in this vision for education in The Bahamas. It is a celebration of the world-class learning experiences that have propelled LCIS forward from a small community school to a global leader in education. It is a celebration of the impact that this learning will have on future generations of young people in this country.”

The new campus will boast dedicated spaces for enhanced teaching and learning, including a state-of-the-art Physics Lab, Design Makerspace, Library, Art Studio and Music Room. Early Learning Centre (18 months-Kindergarten) and Elementary School (Grades 1-6) students will be based at the original campus within the Lyford Cay community. The original campus has also seen improvements and expansion in recent years and will continue to be enhanced with the additional space made available.

Especially beneficial to Bahamian families will be the increased availability of scholarship and financial aid funding for qualified students accompanying the opening of the new campus. At two recent, highly attended Admissions events, prospective families had the opportunity to tour the school campus and learn more about its programmes. The robust financial aid and scholarships programme is supported by a 3 million dollar endowment. There will be an additional 25% in funds available to award for the upcoming school year. Priority applications for next year are due by 15 December. Inquiries or tour bookings can be made at any time via the school’s website: www.lcis.bs
