BTC’s teams are continuing to work on fully restoring services to Abaco and Grand Bahama. The company announced that it will provide free mobile calls and data to all of its customers nationwide.

CEO, Garry Sinclair said, “We are providing unlimited local calls and data until Sunday at midnight nationwide, allowing family members and friends to reach out to each other. Our engineers landed in Sandy Point yesterday morning to begin our initial network assessments in Abaco. Our teams in Grand Bahama have also started assessments. Yesterday, we were able to see some of our colleagues in Abaco for the first time since the storm. Thus far, we have been in contact with some of them and we were able to evacuate two families yesterday. They are now resting comfortably in New Providence.”

In Grand Bahama, the technical team was able to restore several sites as well as mobile voice and data. Several portable mobile towers (cellular on wheels ‘COW’s’) were shipped to Abaco. This will assist with immediate mobile service restoration in the more populated areas of Abaco as our teams work to reinstate services. Those towers will arrive in Abaco today and will be assembled as quickly as possible to bring relief to customers. Thereafter, BTC will setup communications stations providing Wi-Fi, free replacement devices, free devices, SIM cards and relief supplies.

“Over 55,000 pounds of food and relief supplies are being shipped to both islands to assist anyone in need. BTC will also be replacing devices and SIM cards in both islands and providing battery packs,” Sinclair continued.

BTC has also suspended billing for all customers in Abaco and Grand Bahama. Additionally, the company will continue to provide free voice and data services for all mobile customers in Abaco and Grand Bahama until the network is fully restored.

Yesterday, the Cable & Wireless Charitable Foundation announced that it earmarked $500,000 toward immediate and longer-term relief and restoration efforts in Hurricane Dorian’s aftermath. The Foundation has also put out an appeal to raise additional funds to support the recovery efforts. BTC will continue to keep the general public informed. We are with you every step of the way and BTC pledges to #ComeBackStronger and #RebuildBetter.
