AID Clay Court Championships continue at Gym Tennis Club

The first week of the 27th Annual AID Clay Court Tennis Championships is now completed, and three divisional champions having been determined. The championships are ongoing over at the Gym Tennis Club in Winton Meadows.

Virgile Homere, 13, won his first tournament title, defeating Patrick Mackey Jr. in the Under-14 Boys Singles final. He won easily in straight sets, not surrendering a game, 6-0 and 6-0. The Ladies Jr. Vets Singles title was won by Richette Percentie over Gym Club President Valorie Rees, also in straight sets, 6-4 and 6-3. Devlin Fisher claimed the Men’s Jr. Vets Singles crown, defeating Dwayne Gibson in straight sets, 6-1 and 6-4.

The ‘AID’, as the tournament is commonly known, is one of the most popular events on the local tennis calendar and continues this week with play in four divisions – Men’s Open Singles and Doubles, Men’s Jr. Vets Doubles and Mixed Doubles.
