THE BAHAMAS DEPARTMENT OF METEOROLOGY HAS ISSUED A

SEVERE THUNDERSTORM WARNING FROM 6:00AM EDT UNTIL

9:00AM TUESDAY 9TH JULY 2019.

A SEVERE THUNDERSTORM WARNING IS NOW IN EFFECT FOR

GRAND BAHAMA AND ITS ADJACENT WATERS.

AT 6:00AM LIGHTNING DETECTOR, RADAR AND SATELLITE

IMAGERY DEPICTED CLUSTERS OF SHOWERS AND

THUNDERSTORMS MOVING TOWARDS AND OVER THE

MENTIONED AREA DUE TO A LINGERING TROUGH OVER THE

NORTHWEST BAHAMAS

SOME OF THESE THUNDERSTORMS WILL BE STRONG TO SEVERE AT

TIMES AND CAN PRODUCE STRONG GUSTY WINDS, DANGEROUS

LIGHTNING, HEAVY DOWNPOURS, HAIL, AND POSSIBLE

WATERSPOUT AND/OR TORNADIC ACTIVITY. SOME LOCALIZED

FLOODING COULD OCCUR IN LOW LYING AND FLOOD PRONE

AREAS DURING HEAVY DOWNPOURS.

BOATERS IN THE WARNING AREA SHOULD SEEK SAFE HARBOUR

AND RESIDENTS IN THE WARNING AREA SHOULD STAY INDOORS

AND AWAY FROM WINDOWS WHEN CONDITIONS WORSEN.

RESIDENTS SHOULD NOT SEEK SHELTER UNDER TREES OR IN

WATER AS THESE CAN BECOME LIGHTNING CONDUCTORS.
