Sir Jack Hayward was known for his love of Football, or Soccer. Before his passing he was so proud of the work the Freeport Rugby and Football Club (FRFC) was doing to promote and improve his beloved sport in Grand Bahama, often coming out on the first day, kicking the ball around, and posing for photos. Now going 16 years strong, the FRFC Soccer Camp will once again be held on Monday July 1st to Friday July 5th.
“This camp is truly the best deal on the island for the summer,” said Rob Speller, FRFC President. “Attendance is being pegged at 100 this year, and those parents who want their children to take part need to act quickly to ensure all the places are not already filled.”
Registration forms are available at Barefoot Marketing, West Atlantic Drive, Freeport, as well as at the venue, Freeport Rugby, and Football Club on East Settlers Way (evenings and weekends only). Those who sign up will get full uniform as well as lunch and refreshments every day.
The Camp will bring four qualified coaches from the UK and USA to bring the highest quality coaching to the kids who attend the camp. Robbie Pringle, Abbie Sadler, both from the UK, and Joshua Horne and Alex Guyer from the USA, who are brought over via the Premier League’s support of this international camp. “Players need to have the right work rate and discipline to really develop,” said Speller. “They must love training and seeing themselves progress in the process."
All the coaches have a huge amount of coaching experience and have coached all over the world. Robbie Pringle, who will lead the group will be making his fifth visit to the Camp and is looking forward to another exciting week “This will be my fifth camp and I always look forward to coming back and seeing new and old faces. We try to make the camp as fun as possible and showcase the wonderful game of football (or soccer as the Americans say). The four coaches are looking forward to another fantastic camp and we hope as many kids come out as possible”.
The Camp runs for a full week from 9am – 3pm daily and included in the price of $100 per child is a full soccer kit with socks, shirt and jersey, plus a water bottle, daily lunch, water, and fruit breaks. Speller hopes the reduced price (which was originally $175) will encourage as many kids to attend as possible. “We recognize that the price makes a difference to whether kids can attend the camp or not,” noted the President. “Thanks to the tremendous help from our corporate sponsors; Aliv, Star General, Pelican Bay, JS Johnson, Bradford Marine, 242NewsBahamas, Barefoot Marketing and the Hayward Trust, this low-price makes it extremely affordable for many parents.”
The Camp is open to boys and girls from the age of seven years old to sixteen. Registration and soccer kit distribution will be done this Sunday morning at the Freeport Rugby & Football Club between 11am and 1pm.
