On May 18, 2019, the U.S. Department of Agriculture’s (USDA) Food Safety and Inspection Service (FSIS) announced that Vienna Beef Ltd, Chicago, IL, recalled about 2,030lbs of beef frank links due to the possibility of contamination with extraneous material, specifically metal.
The beef frank link products were produced on May 2, 2019 with an establishment number (“EST.
1”) inside the USDA mark of inspection. The information on the labels is as follows:
Locally, the Ministry of Health Surveillance Unit has issued no reports regarding this product and none has been confirmed by Vienna Beef, Ltd.
Local retailers and wholesalers are asked to check their inventory for products bearing the establishment number provided and, if found, remove and discard the product from their freezers so that they are not sold to consumers.
Wholesalers that are in possession of any recalled product are also asked to notify the public in a timely manner. Consumers, likewise, are asked to check their freezers and discard this product if found.
Please note that BAHFSA is committed to informing and advising the public when such recalls become known. The Authority urges consumers to be vigilant when preparing and consuming foods, such as meat products, as this is the second recall during the month of May that has implicated “metal” as the likely contaminant.
Consumers who may have questions or concerns should contact BAHFSA at: email@example.com.
