Insurer's 'peak year' sees 25 profit rise

A leading Bahamian general insurer yesterday described 2010 as a "peak year" and its "best ever from a technical underwriting perspective", generating a 24.5 per cent net income increase that beat internal budget forecasts by 22 per cent.

Tom Duff, general manager of Insurance Company of the Bahamas (ICB), the 'tied carrier' through which BISX-listed agent/broker J. S. Johnson places much of its general insurance business, told Tribune Business the hurricane-free year and favourable claims experience more than offset the 11.4 per cent drop in gross written premiums.
