Severe Weather Warning Update

THE BAHAMAS DEPARTMENT OF METEOROLOGY HAS ISSUED A SEVERE THUNDERSTORM WARNING FROM 8:30AM EDT UNTIL 10:00AM TUESDAY, 7TH MAY 2019.

A SEVERE THUNDERSTORM WARNING IS IN EFFECT FOR GRAND BAHAMA, NORTH AND CENTRAL ABACO & THEIR ADJACENT WATERS.

AT 8:25AM LIGHTNING DETECTION, RADAR AND SATELLITE IMAGERY CONTINUED TO DEPICT A CLUSTER OF THUNDERSTORMS ASSOCIATED WITH AN APPROACHING COLD FRONT MOVING TOWARDS AND ACROSS THE WARNING AREA.

SOME OF THESE THUNDERSTORMS WILL BE SEVERE AT TIMES CAUSING STRONG GUSTY WINDS, DANGEROUS LIGHTNING, HEAVY DOWNPOURS, HAIL AND POSSIBLE WATERSPOUT OR TORNADIC ACTIVITY.

BOATERS IN THE WARNING AREA SHOULD SEEK SAFE HARBOUR AND RESIDENTS IN THE WARNING AREA SHOULD STAY INDOORS AND AWAY FROM WINDOWS WHEN CONDITIONS WORSEN. RESIDENTS SHOULD NOT SEEK SHELTER UNDER TREES OR IN WATER AS THESE CAN BECOME LIGHTNING CONDUCTORS.
