The Hon. Desmond Bannister, Minister of Public Works, in his capacity as the Minister with responsibility for the operation of garages and buildings regulations, filed charges in the Magistrate’s Court against a number of persons who have contravened the Garage Licensing Act and the Building Regulations Act, Statute Laws of The Commonwealth of The Bahamas.

Two persons appeared before Magistrate Samuel McKinney, Friday, March 8, 2019, in Magistrate’s Court number one on two counts of building without a permit, and renovations to building without an approval which is contrary to the Building Regulations Act Chapter 200 and the Planning and Subdivision Act 2010.

Twelve persons were brought before Magistrate McKinney charged with operating illegal garages.

Fines were imposed on persons who pled guilty to these charges and they were given an opportunity by the Court to clean up their properties within a certain period. Trial dates were fixed by the court in those matters where persons entered not guilty pleas.

More persons are expected to be brought before the Magistrate’s Courts in the near future with reference to similar applications.
