The Bahamas is known to have some of the most pristine waters and
bountiful marine resources in the Caribbean.  These resources are a
vital part of Bahamian culture and its economy. The highest-valued
marine resource that contributes significantly to the Bahamian economy
is the spiny lobster (Panulirus argus). The Bahamas is currently one of
the leading producers of spiny lobster tails in the world earning about
70 million dollars or more per year. Due to the high demand for Bahamian
spiny lobster both domestically and internationally, unsustainable
fishing practices have occurred that place pressure on lobster
populations which ultimately affect landings as well as cause negative
impacts on the marine ecosystem...
