The ‘Happiest Hotel’ on Grand Bahama recently spread some Christmas cheer in the lives of three lucky customers who entered to win fabulous prizes in Pelican Bay Hotel’s ‘12 Days of Christmas Social Media Giveaway’.

The hotel launched the ‘12 Days of Christmas Social Media Giveaway’ as a part of the recent unveiling of forty-five newly decorated rooms, which were remodeled during the property’s four-million-dollar renovation project.

On December first, social media followers were given an opportunity to win fantastic prizes by posting pictures of specific items for 12 consecutive days on Pelican Bay’s Instagram and Facebook pages.

Entrants were encouraged to be fun and creative in their pictures, and the contest rules stipulated that the items had to be clearly displayed and photos were to be uploaded daily to win.

Using the 12 days idea from the well-known Christmas song, the hotel posted requests for pictures of items associated with the property or The Bahamas; like a happy pelican, 2 cocktails from Boones or Sabor, 3 beach or pool chairs, 4 dinner plates, 5 pieces of luggage, 6 swinging palm trees, 7 blooming hibiscus flowers, 8 pies warming, 9 towels for using, 10 toes a wading, 11 straw bags and 12 presents all wrapped. Contestants had the freedom to photograph the items found at the hotel or elsewhere.

Pelican Bay Operations Manager, Della Bridgewater, said the giveaway was an exciting way for the hotel to include their thousands of social media followers in the new room unveiling campaign.

“It’s not always about receiving, this time of year is about giving,” Bridgewater said.

“We really wanted to give our social media followers a fun Christmas game and let them be one of the first to stay in our newly renovated rooms.”

The newly renovated hotel rooms will be available for booking this Christmas and guests will feel at home in the more comfortable, modern décor incorporating bold Bahamian accents, like vibrant wall colours, pillows with star-fish prints and artwork depicting island life.

In addition to the new design, new bathrooms, furniture, air-conditioning units, humidifiers and new technology were also added to the rooms.

The contest was well received by the hotel’s online followers, at the end of the 12 days, twenty-year-old Sarah Gibbs from Grand Bahama, walked away as the grand prize winner, receiving an array of wonderful holiday gifts like a weekend stay at Pelican Bay in one of the newly renovated rooms, dinner at Sabor Restaurant and Boones Bar, luxurious services at Esthetics Spa and Pelican Bay memorabilia.

Gibbs said she enjoyed the contest and admitted at times, she was creatively challenged by the photographs.

“The contest was interesting with different challenges. Some of the challenges were very funny, while others were more perplexing.

But all worth it, as the prizes are so fantastic and the offerings very generous, between the hotel and restaurants. I enjoyed the photo challenges, they were fun and I was able to be creative.”

Runner up Kristi Rose resides in Ontario, Canada, and her clever eye-catching pictures showed the contest items in the snow and she displayed other elements of a Canadian winter in her photos.

Kayla Woodside, runner up from Grand Bahama, also challenged Gibbs for the grand prize with her fun, creative pictures. The contestants were both gifted one night stays in the newly renovated rooms.
