The Bahamas’ leading endurance event, the Sunshine Insurance Marathon Bahamas (SIMB) is gearing up for a very special anniversary. The award-winning race will mark its 10th year milestone on January 20, 2019.

The marathon, which has welcomed thousands of international athletes to Bahamian shores, will be pulling out all of the stops to celebrate its decade in existence.

Sunshine Insurance (Agents & Brokers) Ltd., which is the organizer and lead sponsor for this event, promises that this race will be its biggest and most memorable yet.

Regarded by Runner’s World UK as one of the top 50 races outside of the UK, Marathon Bahamas has positioned itself as one of the best race experiences in the world. Known for its stunning coastal scenery, the race has been the stage for marriage proposals, parties and charity runs. 

Marathon Bahamas offers three events for runners: the marathon, half marathon and a four-person relay.

Well-known for its high-energy party at the finish line, participants and spectators are treated to a Junkanoo rush-out, entertainment and lots of food and drinks.

The event will feature a special anniversary medal and merchandise for participants.

One hundred percent of the net proceeds from Marathon Bahamas remain in The Bahamas. The funds are used to support four local NGOs: the Cancer Society of The Bahamas, the Cancer Society of Grand Bahama, the Princess Margaret Hospital Foundation and the Sister Sister Breast Cancer Support Group.

This year, the Marathon Bahamas Health and Fitness Expo will take place on Saturday, January 19th from 3:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m. The expo is free and open to the public and features healthy lifestyle demonstrations, products and product sampling, nutritional items and the latest in running gear. This is the official event for marathon packet pick-ups.

There is no packet pick-up on Race Day.
