The Caribbean Bottling Company (CBC) was happy to hydrate the hundreds of volunteers that turned out for the 33rd Annual International Coastal Cleanup (ICC) event, hosted by Dolphin Encounters on Sep. 15.

Environmental enthusiasts took to the western end of South Beach to remove trash and debris from the coastal line, as part of an international effort. Last year, nearly 800,000 people from over 100 countries picked up an estimated 20.5 million pounds of trash along 25,188 miles of coastline.

The CBC team ensured volunteers stayed energized with ice-cold Dasani water and Coca-Cola beverages throughout the event.

“The CBC team has supported the International Coastal Cleanup Day for a number of years. It is truly an amazing event, that unites men and women, from around the world, in an effort to protect and perverse our beaches.” noted Nikia Wells, CBC Marketing Manager – Communications. “We are committed to supporting Bahamian environmental preservation initiatives, and have implemented a number of recycling and waste reduction programs in recent years. We are also proud to support ongoing programs like Cans For Kids, which rewards schools for every aluminum can that they collect, AML Foods’ annual BYOB (Bring Your Own Bag) event which encourages shoppers to use reusable shopping bags, and the University of the Bahamas’ Water Day, which helps raise students’ awareness about hydration, water volume usage, and water recycling.”

In addition to community recycling and water conservation efforts, CBC has also been recycling wooden pallets and scrap cardboard for several years now.

“We have recycling bins and recycling programs at our facilities, and we are dedicated to taking part in events and activities that can encourage our fellow Bahamians to make small changes that can greatly impact our environment” added Wells.

In early 2018, The Coca-Cola Company announced a massive global ambition to recycle all of its packaging by 2030. As the official bottler of Coca-Cola beverages in the Bahamas, the Caribbean Bottling Company will continue to look for new and innovative ways to make that goal a reality, in the Bahamas.
