A new concept is delighting the palates of ‘foodies’ across Grand Bahama Island. The brain child, of Sabor’s Head Chef Emmanuel Smith, the concept combined the culinary duo of Wine and Waffles with a dining experience featuring the best that Sabor has to offer on a Wednesday. Created with the taste buds of his customers in mind, Chef Manny has found new and innovative ways to reinvent the classic flavor of a culinary staple: Waffles.

Traditionally a breakfast favourite, the Waffle is the latest culinary item to receive an enthusiastic response from consumers. Ideas like the Waff-wich – a hybrid of waffles and sandwich – is a popular variety enjoyed by the customers.

Fitness fanatics have taken a liking to chef Manny’s multi-grain waffles with protein extras, while more down-home palates love the classic combination of chicken and waffles, adding syrup, cream or marmalades.

Teaming up with the Grand Bahama Chamber of Commerce (GBCC) the event sold out immediately! “We decided to make it a Women’s event and play off the ‘W’ theme,” said Mercynth Ferguson, GBCC Permanent Secretary.

“We knew it was a fun idea but were so pleased that so many working women wanted to attend. The idea of hosting right after work, on the beautiful floating dock was also key to the attendance and everyone knows Chef Emmanuel won’t disappoint.”

Unfortunately, the event was initially scheduled for a day that heralded two weeks of inclement weather in the northern Bahamas. Postponed to a week later, the event launched a new fun concept for one of Grand Bahama’s leading restaurants.

“I am a creative person,” said Chef Emmanuel speaking to guests. “I am always thinking of new concepts for our menu, and thought why not showcase the Waffle craze and our floating dock which has become a hit with restaurant goers.”

Guests enjoyed tasty wine options, along with a variety of waffle dishes accompanied by seafood sauces, chicken, chick pea spreads as well as various nut toppings.

In addition to the savory waffle options, the night offered dessert waffles too, with strawberries, chocolate syrup, cream spreads and more.

Adding to the night, the restaurant’s neighbor, Unexso Sun and Sea Outfitters, also held a fashion show for the guests. Chamber members were offered special discount cards for the store as well as invites back to Sabor for a free glass of wine with their meal, for the summer.

“We are working on our next event” said Smith. “We want to keep pushing the ideas out and also introducing our venue to locals as well.”
