The Caribbean Bottling Company (CBC) is committed to supporting Bahamian environmental preservation initiatives, and has implemented a number of recycling and waste reduction programs in recent years. In recognition of Earth Day, CBC has also dedicated the month of April to supporting conservation awareness projects.

The month long series of eco-friendly programs kicked off with CBC donating $1 to the Seahorse Institute for every Powerade bottle deposited into the school’s recycling bins.

“April is Autism Awareness Month, and we wanted to find a unique way to support the amazing work of the Seahorse Institute while also doing some good for the environment,” said Nikia Wells, CBC Marketing Manager-Communications.

The Seahorse Institute’s Powerade bottle drive is just one way that CBC is helping schools raise funding for their students, while increasing environmental and waste awareness. The Caribbean Bottling Company is also a proud supporter of the ongoing Cans For Kids program, which rewards schools for every aluminum can that they collect.

The CBC team continued their month of awareness activities by taking part in the University of the Bahamas’ Water Day. Students were given bottles of Dasani water as well as handouts, to not only encourage students to stay hydrated, but to highlight the Caribbean Bottling Company’s commitment to reducing water volume usage, recycling water whenever possible and replenishing natural resources. Students also received tips on how they can help to minimize their water footprint at home.

“We all have to do our part to preserve the environment” added Wells. “In addition to our water conservation efforts, CBC has been recycling our wooden pallets and scrap cardboard for several years now. We also have recycling bins at our facilities, and we are dedicated to taking part in events and activities that can encourage our fellow Bahamians to make small changes that can greatly impact our environment.”

The Caribbean Bottling Company will also, once again, partner with AML Foods, for their annual BYOB (Bring Your Own Bag) event. On Apr. 22, shoppers will receive complimentary, reusable shopping bags at Solomon’s locations in New Providence and Grand Bahama, in a bid to reduce plastic shopping bag waste.

In early 2018, The Coca-Cola Company announced a massive global ambition to recycle all of its packaging by 2030. As the official bottler of Coca-Cola beverages in the Bahamas, the Caribbean Bottling Company will continue to look for new and innovative ways to make that goal a reality, in the Bahamas.
