Drooling and your mouth health

DROOLING is when saliva (spit) leaks from the mouth. The lips may appear to be sealed but as long as there is a leakage of saliva, they are unsealed. It is usually caused by true excess salivation (spit overproduction), but can be due to the inability to hold saliva within the mouth or the inability to swallow the saliva. In the last two situations, the amount of saliva produced may be within normal limits.

There are many implications that must be considered as a result of drooling. Drooling is often times socially unacceptable and can be an embarrassment for an individual and/or the caregiver (most times a family member). As a result of the embarrassment, social isolation and ...
