With a mutual interest for the Culinary Arts, Hospitality and Tourism in mind, Atlantis, Paradise Island and the newly established University of The Bahamas recently came together in a partnership that establishes a networking cooperation between the two entities. Noted as a “re-beginning” by UB President Dr. Rodney Smith, the partnership follows one previously held between Atlantis and the then College of The Bahamas that focused on apprenticeship in the Culinary Arts.

During a signing for the Memorandum Of Understanding, Atlantis’ Vice President for Talent Management & Acquisition Tameka Forbes said this latest venture falls in line with the resort’s recent rebranding efforts to highlight and include elements that are true to The Bahamas. “For us at Atlantis, we’re all about “Bahamas At Heart” and this is an opportune time for us to partner with the University of The Bahamas. This is our University. Atlantis is our resort. Our recent rebranding celebrates all that is wonderful about this amazing country and this partnership allows us to have a stake in the progression of our Bahamian students and also our society so it’s a huge accomplishment for our Human Resources team and Atlantis as a whole.”

UB President Dr. Rodney Smith, noting that the signing solidified the next step in the new partnership, said it’s an initiative other corporate entities ought to get on board with.

“It is an absolute pleasure to be doing this with (Atlantis) again. (This partnership) represents a “re-beginning” of something truly necessary. The responsibility for educating Bahamians is really something that belongs to all of us. And so we have to try to work together, collaboratively, to share this responsibility in making this happen across the board… to all of those other establishments who have not done this yet, we want to seriously encourage everyone to get on board.

The partnership provides an exchange of a wide range of opportunities for the University’s students and faculty and Atlantis’ staff, including collaboration on curriculum development initiatives, training, apprenticeship and workshops.

The MOU is good for three years, expiring on March 5th, 2021.
