Bristol Wines & Spirits recently hosted a series of wine events at 1ER Cru and The Clubhouse at Ocean Club with Mark Beringer, chief winemaker at Beringer Vineyards, the oldest continuously operating winery in Napa Valley, California.
During exclusive lunch and dinner experiences designed specifically for The Bahamas’ top food and beverage executives, chefs, restaurant owners and wine lovers, premium Beringer wines such as Beringer Private Reserve and Beringer Knights Valley were expertly paired with cuisine from local culinary artists.
These pairings enabled Mr Beringer to share his unique, expert perspective on the influence of the diverse Napa Valley terroir on the tasting notes of the featured wines.
Mark Beringer, the great-great-grandson of Beringer Vineyards’ founding brother, Jacob Beringer, is only the eighth chief winemaker in the company’s 142-year history.
An Enologist by education, Beringer was previously vice president of winemaking at renowned winemaker Duckhorn, earning the accolade of #6 Wine of the Year from Wine Spectator for the 1999 Duckhorn Napa Valley Cabernet Sauvignon during his 15-year tenure.
Having experienced Bahamian cuisine such as conch and lionfish for the first time on the recent visit, Beringer recommends the Beringer Private Reserve Chardonnay as the ideal complement to the Bahamian palate, noting that the wine’s “lightness and little bit of sweetness” is the perfect balance for local seafood dishes and the warm climate.
