With more than three decades in research, advertising and public relations, Joan Albury is a seasoned communications professional and president of The Counsellors Ltd – the largest full service-marketing agency in The Bahamas, with its offices in New Providence.

Joan has led The Counsellors since 1985 when she left her position as general manager at the Ministry of Tourism to join a consortium of Bahamian professionals who had the opportunity to purchase the public relations agency.

In the 31 years since assuming the role of president, Joan has expanded the company’s service catalogue to include market research, advertising, graphic design and video production.

She is an innovator and has been at the heart of many ‘firsts’ in the Bahamian business communications industry: for the past 25 years, the Bahamas Business Outlook conference, which brings together the top businesspeople in the country and marks the official start of the new business year.

The Business Outlook brand is now a franchise encompassing forums on seven of the major islands of The Bahamas.

She is also the architect of ZNS-TV classics such as Tourism Today, You & Your Money, and Electric Air, as well as the innovative and unprecedented Bahamas @ Sunrise – The Bahamas’ only live TV morning show.

Joan holds a bachelor’s degree from the University of Toronto and an MBA from the University of Miami.

She is married to Fred Albury and they have two sons, Khari and Justin. Joan is a member of Holy Trinity Anglican Church where she serves on the Vestry and is a Sunday School teacher.  She is a director on the Board of Trinity Christian School.

The Press Club Awards will be held Saturday, November 18, 2017 at 7pm at the British Colonial Hilton, under the Patronage of Her Excellency Dame Marguerite Pindling, Governor General of the Commonwealth of The Bahamas.

Dr the Hon Hubert A Minnis, Prime Minister, will deliver the Keynote Address at the Black Tie Event.

Some 40 nominees have submitted their work to win awards in 14 categories.
