Citizens for a Better Bahamas (CBB), congratulates our Chairman Mr. Lemarque Campbell on his admission to the 2017-2019 class of the Master in Anti-Corruption Studies (MACS) program with a full scholarship. This program is offered by the International Anti-Corruption Academy (IACA) based in Laxenburg, Austria.

Lemarque is the first Bahamian to be admitted to this prestigious academic program and the award of a scholarship to him further distinguishes this special honor.

The IACA is an international organization and the first global institution of its kind. It is dedicated to overcoming current shortcomings in knowledge and practice in the field of anti-corruption and to empowering professionals for the challenges of tomorrow.

The IACA was initiated by the United Nations Office on Drugs and Crime, INTERPOL, the European Anti-Fraud Office (OLAF), the Republic of Austria, and other international stakeholders.

The MACS program brings together professionals from around the world with related work experience in the public and private sectors, international and non-governmental organizations, media, and academia. The MACS program offers civil society actors an unparalleled opportunity to build professional capacity in the field of anti-corruption.

Participation in this program is a significant milestone for Citizens for a Better Bahamas as it furthers our efforts to cultivate a strong and legitimate civil society that can effect positive transformations and sustainable progress for all.

We wish Lemarque well as he travels to Austria for his first on-campus phase of study on November 6-17.

During this visit, Lemarque will also have the privilege to represent Bahamas civil society, as an IACA delegate, to the Seventh session of the Conference of States Parties to the United Nations Conventions against Corruption on November 6-10 in Vienna, Austria.

Lemarque Campbell is an attorney with extensive experience in the fields of anti-corruption, governance and international law.

Before returning to the Bahamas in 2014, Lemarque lived in the former Soviet Republic of Georgia, where he worked as a legal analyst for Transparency International. Lemarque currently serves as Chairman for Citizens for a Better Bahamas (CBB), an NGO that advocates for government transparency and accountability in the Bahamas. CBB is accredited as the Bahamas’ representative for Transparency International, the world’s leading anti-corruption organization.

In his role as CBB Chairman, Lemarque has become a significant voice in Bahamian civil society and has contributed to numerous recommendations for government anti-corruption reforms in the Bahamas, such as the Freedom of Information Act, which is still pending full enactment.

Lemarque holds an MA in Law from the University of Bristol, England; a Postgraduate Diploma in Diplomacy from the University of Malta; and a BA in Sociology. Lemarque is also admitted to both the Bar of England and Wales and the Bahamas Bar.
