Grand Bahama Gospel Extravaganza Heralds Dawn of Independence Day

Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Finance, the Hon. Peter Turnquest and Mrs. Turnquest attended the Gospel Extravaganza on Independence Park in Freeport on Sunday, July 9, 2017 at which the Deputy Prime Minister inspected the Honour Guard -- part of the Bahamian 44th Independence Anniversary celebrations in Grand Bahama.

Hundreds of Bahamians turned out for the five-hour long celebration, which ended with spectacular fireworks.

Also present were: Minister of Youth, Sports and Culture Michael Pintard and Mrs. Pintard; Minister of State for Grand Bahama, Senator Kwasi Thompson, President of the Senate, Kay Smith; and Parliamentary Secretary in the Office of the Prime Minister Pakesia Parker Edgecombe and husband, Trevor Edgecombe.

The five-hour programme culminated with hoisting of the Flag by Sergeant Steve Wilson and Woman Marine Seaman Juliet Taylor during the last moments of July 9 and -- just after midnight -- dawn of July 10, 2017 -- Independence Day. (BIS Photos/Andrew Coakley)
