Saunders Beach casuarina trees

Dear Editor,

Debby Deal’s letter, in Wednesday’s Guardian read like something written by a person with a vested interest in defending the “environmentally friendly way in which the project was executed” at Saunders Beach.
I walk this stretch on a very regular basis, usually around sunrise, and feel that the cutting down of 66 very old and awesome casuarina trees did not make the area more attractive.
Change is inevitable and often good, but change is not necessarily improvement. The new building, now under construction at the western end of the beach, will block the public's view of yet another piece of the sea.
The new car park at Saunders Beach is good. ...
