A little tea, nibbles and lots of table decorating

Faith United Baptist is in the winner's circle. The church's members decorated the winning table with the theme "The Bahamian Thing" at the Bahamas National Baptist Women's Convention's fifth annual tea party and fashion show.
Rev. Sabrina Pinder, who is also president of the Baptist Women's Convention, saw her church, St. Mark's Native Baptist, finish in the first runner-up position with its table presentation of "A Cure For Cancer".
Mt. Calvary Baptist Cathedral's "Spring Fever" table was good enough for the second runner-up position; with Judea Baptist Church coming together to present "Tis So Sweet" to finish in the third runner-up spot.
While the competition was stiff, ultimately, the aim of the tea party is to bring Baptist women from all churches together for the glory of God. Proceeds raised from the event also go to helping those in need and to assist people in Andros and Grand Bahama with hurricane relief.
The tea party was held during the solemn 40-day Lenten period on Sunday, April 2 at the Charles H. Thompson Memorial Centre, at Transfiguration Baptist Church.
As Lent is not a time to be taken lightly, and many Christians attest to increased tests and trials during the period, despite the increased challenges, the group of women took time out to celebrate life, glorify God, laugh a little, meet friends, sip tea and nibble on dainty offerings for a good cause.
A hat parade, mini fashion show, table decorating and judging rounded out the day, which was held under the theme "A Lenten Tea Affair".

The Bahamas National Women's Department also exists to help the development of the whole woman. One of its goals is to help women to become faith-based in their homes, which the department's members hope will translate to building better communities, and ultimately a better nation.
When the women come together, it gives them the opportunity to grow spiritually, physically, and psychologically. They also work to assist the needy and elderly, particularly those on the Family Islands.
"We try our best to send food items to as many Family Islands as possible," said Rev. Pinder. "We give to the needy here in Nassau and the young women, as a part of our quarterly outreach. Monies are small, but our God is great, and he has always made provision for us as we travelled."
Rev. Pinder encouraged Baptist women present to get involved, if they were not already involved, and urged them to attend the meetings held by The Bahamas National Baptist Women's Department. She told them their support could help to save the life of a woman in need and help to expand the reach of the department.
Women wishing to be a part of The Bahamas National Baptist Women's Department meetings and get involved in making a change, can telephone Sabrina Pinder at 361-5352/8071964, or visit The Bahamas National Baptist Missionary and Educational Convention.
