With the FIFA Beach Soccer World Cup mere weeks away, the entire Bahamas is getting excited about the hosting of this global event. Just recently, the local organizing committee of the event (LOC) started the FIFA Beach Soccer World Cup Trophy Tour in Grand Bahama, visiting Mary Star of the Sea Catholic School and Jack Hayward Senior High School.
During this visit, Caribbean Bottling Company (CBC), the local producer and distributor of Coca-Cola products including Powerade and Dasani Water, highlighted its sponsorship of national team player Lesly St. Fleur. St. Fleur is a key player on The Bahamas' National Beach Soccer team, and formally became an endorsed Powerade athlete for The Bahamas on March 20.
"We (BFA) are proud of the sponsorship that Powerade has given Lesly," explained Jason McDowell, Team Bahamas Manager, and vice president of the Bahamas Football Association (BFA). "Beach soccer is one of the fastest growing sports in the world and local support to our team and the players is key to the success of our program. We are also thankful for Powerade in supplying us with Powerade and Dasani Water for national team training."
St. Fleur, the top goal scorer for The Bahamas during the recently completed CONCACAF (Confederation of North, Central American and Caribbean Association Football) Beach Soccer Championships, said: "In preparation for the 2017 FIFA Beach Soccer World Cup, we (Team Bahamas) are practicing nonstop. We practice seven days a week, and most days twice a day. For this reason, I was excited to endorse Powerade as it is a product that I drink to help me power through my workouts, and to hydrate myself after a long day. I would like to thank Caribbean Bottling Company, and Powerade, for allowing me the opportunity to represent their brand here in The Bahamas."
CBC also proudly sponsored the national beach soccer team, for both the FIFA Beach Soccer World Cup lead-up, and in February for the CONCACAF Championships, as the official beverage provider with Powerade and Dasani Water.
"Lesly is a wonderful example of hard work and dedication paying off," Cara Douglas, CBC's Marketing Manager, explained. "He is a great example to young athletes, and we are hopeful that in some small way our support of Lesly will encourage others to follow his great example."
The FIFA Beach Soccer World Cup Bahamas 2017 begins on April 27, and will run for 11 days, making it the longest running sports event to ever be hosted in The Bahamas. Team Bahamas is scheduled to take to the sand on April 27 against Switzerland, April 29 against Senegal, and May 1 against Ecuador. The general public is asked to come out and support Team Bahamas.
