Corporate Bahamas is stepping up to the plate once again, rolling out the sponsorship for the IAAF World Relays Bahamas 2017.
The third edition of the International Association of Athletics Federations (IAAF) World Relays is slated for April 22-23 at Thomas A. Robinson National Stadium right here in The Bahamas.
So far, a number of local companies have come on board as sponsors, which are separated into various categories, giving The Bahamas an even more noted position in the world's sporting arena.
The national partner is the Caribbean Bottling Company Bahamas Limited. The national suppliers are Bahamas Waste, Bahamasair, Bahamas Power and Light, Commonwealth Brewery Limited (Kalik) and Restaurants Bahamas Limited (KFC). The public institutions coming on board as sponsors are the Ministry of Tourism; the Ministry of Youth, Sports and Culture; and the Bahamas Association of Athletic Associations. The National Broadcaster of the event is the Broadcasting Corporation of The Bahamas.
Local sponsors of the event will join IAAF Official Partners ASICS, SEIKO and TDK and Official Supplier Mondo.
Since inauguration and the successful execution of the event in 2014 and 2015, the IAAF World Relays has continued to take off. For the first time, it will join the ranks of other IAAF staple events as it becomes part of the IAAF World Athletic Series. The world relays are highly-anticipated with interest and participation from athletes, fans, the media and sponsors from around the globe.
"We are very thankful to those who have come forth thus far to sponsor this event," said Sherrell Storr, Director of Sponsorship, IAAF World Relays Bahamas 2017. "The relays are set to be not only exciting, but an event that the entire world will be watching. Sponsorship is vital to this event and whereas we appreciate, immensely, those who have signed up for sponsorship so far, we are asking other members of Corporate Bahamas to step up to the plate and join us in a mutually beneficial partnership that will once again take The Bahamas to the world."
The Bahamas is the first and only country to host the IAAF World Relays. It became the host country of the IAAF World Relays when former IAAF President Lamine Diack announced agreements to place The Bahamas as host of the relays until 2019.
According to reports, The Bahamas was selected as host based on the unique appeal of the country and its people in their role as hosts of a tourism-based nation, and the fact that The Bahamas has a rich history in athletics, relays in particular.
Local sponsors can expect a quality event for several reasons - the IAAF World Relays Bahamas 2017 is one of most anticipated local events of 2017; Rio de Janeiro Olympic medalists Chris Brown, Asafa Powell and Andre De Grass have committed to attending this event; and countries will bring their best teams in an attempt to qualify for the London World Championships in the men and women's 4x100 and 4x400 meters events.
Also, for the first time in the world relays, men and women will compete against each other in a mixed gender 4x400m relay. The competition is expected to be fierce as countries compete for the coveted 'Golden Baton', given to the nation that accumulates the most points at the two-day meet.
Sponsors will have access to a sundry of benefits as partners of the IAAF World Relays Bahamas 2017. For more information on becoming a sponsor, interested persons and companies are asked to contact Marcia Dorsett, Sales & Sponsorship Coordinator of the world relays, at marcia.dorsett@iaafworldrelaysbahamas.com.
