Thu, Mar 9th 2017, 11:40 PM

Louis & Steen's Coffeehouse will bring the New Orleans experience to The Bahamas with the hosting of its first Mardi Gras Day for those people seeking excitement coupled with specialty coffee, delicious Creole fare and jazz music in a fun, relaxing environment.
The full day of family events starts with sunrise yoga at 7 a.m. on the property's ocean front deck. Children's face painting and Mardi Gras mask making, Mardi Gras trivia, a Mardi Gras market featuring various Bahamian artisans showcasing their work for sale, along with performances by a live jazz band are on the agenda for the rest of the day.
Louis & Steen's first Mardi Gras Day will be held on Saturday, March 11 at the coffeehouse on West Bay Street.
Despite the fact that it will be a Mardi Gras-themed event, no event in The Bahamas would be complete without the perfect Junkanoo ending, and Louis & Steen's will end the day with a Junkanoo Mardi Gras rushout, combining the popular cultures of New Orleans and The Bahamas in one.
"Customers can purchase masks and actually participate in the rushout," said Davin Russell, Louis & Steen's proprietor. "The cultures of New Orleans and The Bahamas are very similar and complement each other well, [so] Bahamians will feel right at home. We expect everyone to enjoy New Orleans Mardi Gras at Louis & Steen's."
In addition to specialty coffee drinks and French pastries, customers can expect to dine on authentically Cajun and Creole cuisine --seafood gumbo, king cake pancakes (in Mardi Gras colors) and shrimp and hot sausage po' boys.
With every drink purchase on the day customers will receive beads, a favorite element of Mardi Gras. Throughout the day Mardi Gras paraphernalia and Louis & Steen's gift certificates will be given out.
