Horse racing continues at Beaumont Park in St Kitts

BASSETERRE, St Kitts -- Racing at Beaumont Park in St Kitts on Easter Monday afternoon was highlighted by the first running of “The Easter Cup”, sponsored by Digicel. The race for four year olds and upward carried a purse of EC$25,000.

A crowd of over 8,000 people watched Schleishinger gain his third victory in a row. Hall of Fame and Kentucky Derby winning jockey, Edgar Prado, riding at Beaumont Park for the first time was in the irons.

Schleishinger set a new track record at the one mile distance in 1:39 seconds flat. This eclipsed the former mark by two-fifths of a second which was set on January 31st of this year. High Wire Glory finished second with Our Bud third.

On the undercard, Anansi made it two for two at Beaumont Park while equaling the track record at five furlongs in :58 4/5 seconds. Ananasi carried jockey Edgar Prado to his second win in as many mounts on the afternoon. Anansi was well in hand while drawing off through the lane.

Daring Spirit with Jamaican jockey Javour Simpson finished second. New York Prince finished third.
