Dear Editor,

I write to express my appreciation for the obvious enormous effort put into writing The Guardian's National Review each week.

I especially appreciate Candia Dames' "Strange Bedfellows" piece in the December 19, 2016 issue.

Dames' diligent and painstaking research is evident in what she wrote. She reminded me and other readers of previous positions and statements by Loretta Butler-Turner, Branville McCartney, and Edison Key that they are now contradicting in word and deed.

But more than that, Dames helped would-be voters like me to evaluate more closely some of those who are offering themselves for public office. And for that, I'm grateful.
