Lucaya International outside hitter Carlie McBrayer was named as the GrandBahamaSports.com 2016 Senior Girls Volleyball Player of the Year last Monday.

On the same day, Bishop Michael Eldon's Royjanae Brown was named as the GrandBahamaSports.com 2016 Junior Girls Volleyball Player of the Year. The player of the year awards, presented annually by GrandBahamaSports.com, to the top athletes in five GBSSAA-sanctioned sports, signifies "the best of the best in high school athletics" on the island of Grand Bahama. They have been presented for the past 10 years.

The Grand Bahama Secondary Schools Athletic Association (GBSSAA) is the governing body for high school sports on Grand Bahama.

The winners of the senior sport award, male and female, become finalists for the prestigious 2017 Scholar Athlete of the Year Awards, which will be presented on May 7, 2017, at the Bahamas Union of Teachers (BUT) Hall.

A panel of coaches representing the GBSSAA member schools chose the nominees for this year's player of the year awards on Grand Bahama. Each GBSSAA member institution has two votes.
