Tame Your Tongue

Now let me commence here today by asking you a simple question which I'm quite sure I know the answer to -- now here's the question: Have you ever said something to another in the heat of the moment so to speak, which you wished you'd never said? Now as I stated already, I would presume that just about everyone in my reading audience will answer that question in the affirmative. Yes indeed, I guess that we're all guilty of shooting our mouth off, so to speak at times when we get very annoyed, and thus just blurt out something which upon reflection later on when we've calmed down a bit we really wish we had not said.

I was listening to Joel Osteen one Sunday as he gave another very inspiring and indeed sensible talk that contained a whole lot of common sense and wisdom. Joel was talking about the same subject that I'm dealing with here today and he suggested that we all need to control our emotions as he said to everyone -- you need to tame your tongue. What a great way of putting it.

There's no doubt about it, we're all inclined to get hot under the collar every now and then when dealing with others who are perhaps not very tactful and who thus are inclined to annoy us at times. We need to always remember, that once we have said something hurtful to another we cannot get it back as the damage has in fact already been done.

Yes indeed, we all need to do as Joel suggested and thus tame our tongue.  But D. Paul, how do we do this as it's easier said than done you may query?  Well number one, you need to at all times think before you speak, and number two, learn to take some deep breaths whenever anyone starts to get to you by saying or doing something which really annoys you. Yes my friend, when you stay calm and watch what you say to others, you'll enjoy life whilst not offending anyone.
