Airlift to The Bahamas showed gradual improvement during the first quarter of 2016, according to Senior Director of Airlift Development Tyrone Sawyer.

Sawyer told Guardian Business that some international airlines have decided to add more flights to their Bahamian destinations. The director suggested that there was an increase in the market for the Family Islands as a travel destination. He also said that tourism is expected to increase from Europe after the summer.

"Delta Air Lines' new nonstop flights from Atlanta to Marsh Harbour, Abaco and North Eleuthera would be adding one more flight per week this summer, going from two flights per week to three flights per week," said Sawyer.

He also spoke about improvements and performance updates on certain routes.

"Sunwing Airlines' flights from several U.S. gateways to Freeport, Grand Bahama are showing much better advance booking performance than last year," said Sawyer.

American Airlines' (AA) new Miami to San Salvador twice weekly flight, which was introduced on January 28, 2016, is performing very well, said Sawyer.

He revealed that British Airways (BA) would be accommodating more visitors on the London to Nassau route.

"BA will also introduce its new B-777 jet on the London/Nassau route this summer, adding much new seat capacity and potential to increase tourism from the UK and Europe," said Sawyer.
