An anonymous tip led officers to the discovery of a man's body found stuffed inside a suitcase yesterday morning, police said.

The body was found inside an abandoned building on Red Sea Lane, off Soldier Road, just before 10 a.m.

"Based on the information we received, police checked the two-story abandoned building," said Chief Superintendent Clayton Fernander.

"Police searched the building and on the lower floor they discovered the lifeless body of a male, who appears to be in his early 30s. He was in a large suitcase."

While Fernander could not give an exact cause of death and although he declined to describe the victim's wounds, he said the man sustained multiple injuries to the body.

"We don't know the nature of [the injuries] at this time," he said.

Fernander said emergency medical services personnel pronounced the man dead at the scene.

Police went door to door speaking with residents in the area after the discovery.

"We appeal to members of the public and persons living in the community that if they have any information to please contact the police and give us whatever information they have," Fernander said.

"We don't know the motive of this murder at this time. We are still on the ground."

There have been 45 murders for 2016, representing a 11 percent decrease in murders this year.

This time last year there were 50 murders.
