The Bahamas finishes fourth at Caribbean Classic

Playing at the Caribbean Classic Championships that wrapped up over the weekend at the Cinnamon Hills Golf Club in Montego Bay, Jamaica, The Bahamas managed a fourth place finish overall.

The team of Vernon Wells and Bobby Rose had the best categoric finish for the country, finishing fourth in the Higgs & Higgs Cup Division. They shot a 10-over par 226. They accumulated 15 of The Bahamas' 35 total points in the race for the Ambrose Gouthro Cup, given to the overall winner of the championships.

Fabian Lee Foon and Richard Camacho, of Trinidad and Tobago, combined for a 2-over par 218 to win the Higgs & Higgs Cup. Trinidad and Tobago also took the overall team trophy, finishing with 47 total points. Home country Jamaica was second with 45 total points, and the U.S. Virgin Islands (USVI) rounded out the top three nations, with 42 total points. The Bahamas was fourth.

In the Higgs & Higgs Cup Division, the Jamaican team of George Hugh and Easton Williams finished second, with a 5-over par 221, and the USVI team of Sam Graci and Mark Schechter was third with a 7-over par 223.

The Bahamas team of Paul Bowe and Broderick Pinder finished fifth in the Francis & Steele Perkins Cup
Division, shooting a 19-over par 235. The USVI team of Trevor Levine and Ed Gittens won that division with a 4-over par 220, and the Trinidad and Tobago team of Angard Sonnilal and Deonath Reynold were second with a 12-over par 228. The Cayman Islands and Jamaica finished tied for third in that division. The Cayman team of Scott Kapuscinski and Robert Woods and the Jamaican team of Wayne Chai Chong and Rody Jardine, both shot 16-over par 232 to finish tied for third. The Bahamas was fifth.

The Bahamas team of Peter and John McIntosh finished tied for fifth in the Ramon Baez Romano Division, shooting a 14-over par 230. The Cayman Islands team of Jonathan Joyce and Tracy Moore also shot a 14-over par 230. The Bajan team of Marcus Clarke and James Johnson won that division, shooting a 3-under par 213. The Jamaican team of Sean Morris and Mark Newnham was second with a 1-under par 215, the Trinidad and Tobago team of Clint Alfred and Mahendra Rajkumar was third with a 2-over par 218, and the USVI team of Kevin Ferris and Doug Menzies finished fourth with an 11-over par 227.

In the fight for the Maria Nunes Trophy, The Bahamas team of Agatha Delancey and Ingrid Black was fifth, shooting an 85-over par 301. The Jamaican team of Marguerite Lyn and Michele Gabay won that title with a 13-over par 229, the Trinidad and Tobago pair of Pauline Raynor and Amoy Chang Fong finished second with a 19-over par 235, the USVI team of Maria Pendergast and Cathy Colburn was third with a 21-over par 237, and the Turks & Caicos team of Madeline Erskine and Mary Eddy finished fourth with a 65-over par 281.

Team Bahamas will now prepare for the 60th Caribbean Amateur Golf Championships (CAGC), which will be held here in The Bahamas in July.
