The hustle continues for the Chris Brown Bahamas Invitational (CBBI) as another ticket drive was staged by the junior shadow program at the Mall at Marathon this past weekend. A team of 18 primary, junior and high school students flooded the mall in an effort to spread the word about CBBI and get volunteers. That is until they were sanctioned.

"We were told that we could only give out flyers and seek volunteers in Galleria Cinemas and not the mall proper," explained Margarita Wilson, the program's director. "We had already covered about 95 percent of the mall before security stepped in."

But security restrictions didn't dampen the spirit of the students. The one-day meet, featuring some of the best global stars of track and field is set for Saturday, April 16 at the Thomas A. Robinson National Stadium.

"Despite circumstances, we were able to execute and get the job done," said St. Andrew's student Vandia Williams, who even managed to get a few volunteers to sign up in the mall before being relegated to the movie theatre.

The group spent three hours handing out flyers and telling the general public about the CBBI and the importance of the event to the country.

"My experience was great but it was also a little shocking because some people declined or just walked away while I was trying to speak to them," said Asia Darville, a St. John's College student.

The ticket drive is one of many activities the students will participate in before the second running of CBBI on April 16. The group have made appearances with members of CBBI's local organizing committee on local radio talk shows, and Darville made her television debut on Bahamas at Sunrise. There is another ticket drive planned for the mall this Saturday.
