Cancer supporters have been asked to shave or dye their hair tomorrow to bring awareness to the disease that affects thousands of Bahamas.

Julia Browning has asked people to join her in a cancer awareness day by posting hair photos on the Facebook page Cancer Awareness Day on Saturday, March 12.

While she is not a cancer patient, Julia does have multiple sclerosis and will be travelling to Russia later this month to have alternative stem cell treatment in the hopes of halting her body’s decline.

As part of the treatment, she will have to undergo several rounds of chemotherapy.

“I know my hair will fall out when I have the chemo and it’s less traumatic to cut your hair before it falls out and so I will be shaving my hair before I leave. I am asking everyone who can to honour people touched by cancer by either cutting their hair and donating it to an organisation that makes wigs for cancer patients or by dyeing their hair the color of the cancer they wish to bring awareness to and post their picture on the Facebook page Cancer Awareness Day on March 12.”

A number of hairdressers have stepped up to offer free haircuts for cuts and donatons (longer than 8 inches), to color hair in the shade supporting cancer of their choice, or to shave people’s heads.
